This week we have been commuting to our day job from our camper. It has been a wonderfully refreshing time. But if you live in the southern USA for any length of time, you have heard the expression, “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise,” in reference to making plans to do something. Y’all, one of the nights we were here camping alongside the creek, it rained hard for almost 24 hours. The creek was getting higher and higher as I tucked my littles into their RV bunks and I was getting nervous. I did not sleep much. I kept looking out the window to see if I needed to get the go bag I had packed just in case. Well, we didn’t float down the river and the sun was bright, the grass very green, and the birds were singing the next day.
As I walked with my little knights through the puddles (Well, they walked through puddles. I tried to avoid them.), I was able to see how far the water had come because all the sticks and loose leaves and every piece of wood that had been in the fire pit had lined up on the bank of the creek along with a dead fish the knights had to photograph about 15 feet from the creek’s edge and at least 25 feet from our elevated campsite. I later found out that our camper sat on the highest spot in the place and there was really not ever a need to worry about getting swept away.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
How much we are like this in our lives. Our Father has us on the highest land and yet we fear the rising water. He is holding us, yet we fear being swept away by the evil of the world or our own scary circumstances. According to multiple resources “do not be afraid” is the most frequent command in the Bible. Just in the New Testament it appears 70 times (bodytithe.com)!
What are you afraid of? Lots of …. stuff…. has happened in our world this year. A lot is still happening and we have all been affected. What is the rising water of your own life? He is with you. That is more true than any flood waters we are watching rise in the middle of the night through an RV window. Make sure you are feeding your mind and heart with His word more than the voices of “rain and wind.”

Psalm 18:2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 42:6
O my God, my soul despairs within me. Therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon–even from Mount Mizar.
Psalm 77:3
I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah
Psalm 94:22
But the LORD has been my stronghold, and my God is my rock of refuge.
