My knights love building castles with blocks of all sorts, forts from blankets, and cities of sand. They will add to them for days and never seem to have enough building materials. Quite often other toys join in the games as well as knights or villains. They swell with pride as they call out, “Mommy, look at my tower!” Or “Look at my creation, Daddy!” Inevitability, someone will play a little rough, build the tower too tall, or step into a toy booby trap and the creation is destroyed. The walls of the castle crumble. Both boys loathe Fridays because the blocks get cleaned away so the floor can be vacuumed. Whatever the reason, there are tears, sometimes weeping or rage or both, every time a creation is destroyed, as if a soul was crushed instead of a lump of sand or blocks, which were designed to be built up and torn down and built again.
How many times do we act like this when our own grown-up blocks come tumbling down?
““Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.”
