You Already Have Everything You Need

I’ve taken up a new hobby of scrolling through Amazon to see if I need anything delivered by tomorrow or from Instacart delivered within two hours. Things will often sit in my cart for days to weeks before I move 75% of the items to “save for later” and order only one thing.

In our Western culture, our society, we are constantly bombarded with messages that we need better pans, nicer skin, change in our investments, remodeling of our bathrooms, a bigger home in a nicer neighborhood, to know more, have more, be more. What we are and what we have, what we do, are never enough. Sometimes I have to ban myself from Pinterest and HGTV (both of which are definitely favorites) in order to get my priorities in line and my anxiety about keeping my house in showcase order (for the exactly ZERO people who are coming to see it) back in check.

God’s Word…pretty much counter to everything that comes “naturally.”

The Bible is constantly telling us to focus our attention, our thoughts, our emotions, our goals, our energy, everything on God. When I do this, I can see my resources (including time and a messy home) through His eyes. It changes my whole perspective. Several years ago I was in a situation I never thought I would be in and I kept asking God to provide for another situation of life. After much weeping and maybe a panic attack, I heard God whisper in my heart, “You already have everything you need.” Out of that space the song, “All I Need is You,” was born. May it bless you, as it did me. May it help you to look at the resources around you with fresh perspective. Most importantly, may it point you to Jehovah Jireh, the God Who Provides.
