This local Asheville zoo is a fun spot for all ages and most abilities. From the time you enter, you realize this place is a little different, in a good way. There are several spots along the paved and shady path for active learning (STEAM) and large motor skills from playgrounds to musical instruments made of natural materials and more. There is not currently a restaurant service but snacks and drinks were available through vending machines and at the gift shop. Speaking of vending machines, we totally bought our souvenir stuffed animals from the vending machine next to the gift shop! Oh yes, and the real animals are cute too, mostly native to the area. So much extra fun here for the little guys but also a nice time for the big kids and grownups. Bonus: This little adventure is open year-round and shares the lower parking lot with a local playground near a river. The public pool adjacent to the playground is open seasonally.
