This Is How I Fight My Battles

Last night I fell asleep several times but never really rested. My mind was in too many places, mostly telling me how completely inadequate I am to the task of being the only child stateside, motherhood and officership (per the usual).

I know this place well. The all-consuming, racing thoughts are quite familiar and easy to give into. This is the place where life is scary. This is the place where the battle for my trust in God goes head to head with, well, my head. Much of what follows is found throughout scripture so a reference is not given. I could write a sermon for each. Here are my weapons:

  1. Reminding myself of who God says I am. My value is from Him. It is therefore not diminished or eliminated by anything I ever do or fail to do or anyone else’s opinion. This is also true for you.
  2. God is not surprised by the season of life I am in or our present or future circumstances and responsibilities. This is also true for you.
  3. The whole point is that I can’t do it on my own. I need community with other sisters and brothers as well as constant fellowship with Him. This is also true for you.
  4. God cares infinitely more than I ever could for the people in my life, including me. This is also true for you.
  5. I am chosen by Him for a purpose. I was placed here on purpose at this time for a purpose. If I am continuing to follow Him, the next place I am this will also be true. This is also true for you.
  6. If I am truly living with Jesus at the center of all that I do, then my list for the day will be directed, my schedule will be affected, and every appointment, divine. This includes my little kids, my big kids, my friends, those we serve, my church, and every mundane task along the way. (How often I feel like the daily tasks of caring for my family are not significant enough….) I’m this scenario the results are not my responsibility, only the obedience. This is also true for you.
