This hidden away park is now one of my favorite. It’s on the Montreat College campus. There are clean bathrooms, shaded picnic areas, multiple play structures that resemble wooden castles, tennis courts, and a multi-level creek with bridges to cross them.
It’s a perfect place for knights and princesses alike! I recommend bringing a picnic or snacks and drinks as well as water shoes as well as a towel and change of clothes for everyone. It was very clean, but I did come across a piece of thick window glass between some rocks. I was amazed how cool it felt on a hot summer day, even before putting my feet in the icy mountain water.
There is also a short trail which we will have to find another time. Once got in the creek there was no going back. This place is a little hard to find, which only adds to the charm. It’s worth getting out of Asheville and spending a whole afternoon here.
If you need coffee or ice cream, you will be driving through Black Mountain to find Montreat, so get to know their downtown on the way in or out. It has several great shops and restaurants.
