Never Forgotten

“then watch yourself, that you do not forget the Lord who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.”

A candle holder made by my great grandmother when I was just a little girl, maybe before that even.

To be honest I can’t remember the last time my great grandmother crossed my mind. I was going through a box of Christmas decorations my mother gave me and came across the beaded candle holder in the picture above. I don’t really remember it, but it immediately brought to memory the only memory I have of my father’s grandmother. She made each of us an angel from safety pins and beads, much like the craft above, only in white and clear colors. I don’t remember her face, but I remember her gift to us. It sat on my dresser for years. Although I believe it has been lost somewhere through the years, upon seeing this creation, I recognized the mark of its creator immediately.

Markers of God’s provision, his gifts, are also important. They remind us of how God has been faithful and build us up with encouragement and faith as we recognize the mark of the Creator in our own lives. Even if we have forgotten or just don’t think about something in the midst of busyness or strife, that marker, that decorative cross, that bookmark, photo, highlighted Bible passage or journal entry bring a flood of memories at just the right moment. God is good all the time. We don’t feel good in some of the processes we walk through, to be sure. That is when it is most important that we count our blessings and remember His faithfulness.

What markers of God’s faithfulness do you have? When is the last time you allowed those memories to fill your mind and heart? Remember.
