If you have kids like mine, they wake up with sugar coursing through their veins before they have even eat a bite of cereal! I realized very early on in our time homeschooling that there just was no way we were going to accomplish anything until they released some of that energy. I read on a homeschool blog about their routine, which included exercise for everyone first thing in the morning and immediately thought she was probably the smartest mom in the world. So began my quest to find exercise that did not involve more work for me that my kids would actually love. Ideally, we would all walk the dog, but we are pretty scared of the bears in our area. Enter YouTube! Below are links and descriptions for our favorite kids exercise videos. The channels have been amazing! If you don’t like the idea of tech, watch some videos from these channels to get some ideas or find an early morning swim lesson or something. We don’t receive any compensation. We just love these videos.
Teacher Mister Alonso- These videos, though mostly just fun, often combine some form of learning into fitness. Today we did an exercise that asked children to choose which of two flags was correct for several countiries. Then the children do an exercise for a few seconds matching their choice before the correct answer is revealed. There are several freeze dances and various themes that appeal to children.
Sweat Kidz TV Gym Class- This is high energy dance, ninja, aerobics, video game pretending. We fell in love with these right away. A dad and his kids make fantastic videos that involve a light story line, familiar characters, and tons of points for everyone.
Yoga For Kids- this gentle exercise is not your grandmother’s yoga class. There are stories, songs, and activities. Christians have varied opinions about yoga. As a note to those who are concerned, they do use the “secret code” word, “namaste.” Outside of that I don’t see anything that would give most people reason to worry.
Bobo P.E.- This dad and kids are also a blast for my guys. The themes are so fun!
I hope you find some fun ways to help your kiddos release their energy before you start your day and when you are stuck inside for too long.
