Faith: Use What You’ve Got

Recently, my oldest son has become obsessed with having Chopped Kitchen night at home. He thinks it is hysterical to choose wacky ingredients from our pantry and freezer to challenge mommy. I like using up what we already have and getting him to try new dishes. We have ended up with some strange things, like the mac n’ cheese nachos pictured above. They were pretty good . I always start with a bit of anxiety about which ingredients he’s going to pull out and then what I’m going to make after the ingredients are revealed. Sometimes I cheat and search the internet for recipes using those ingredients for ideas. After all, we all have to actually eat this dish.

Life with God is sometimes like this. We are asking God to help us find more money in our zeroed out bank account or more hours in the day or rest or youth leaders or young people for them to lead or the ability to decorate like Joanna Gaines or faith to believe or any number of things. Sometimes God does supply those very things. However, in my life, Gods usually tells me I have everything I need. It’s Chopped Kitchen for life. Here are the “ingredients”. Figure out how to use them. You know what, it’s been true every time. I sometimes have to consult other parents, mentors, manuals, or did deeper into His Word, but I find what I was looking for or better.

There is a song we used to sing when I was a kid. I couldn’t find the exact version, but …

Oftentimes I find I have overlooked resources I do have access to or personal growth I needed to be willing to work on. Most people don’t know that “faith” is actually my middle name. I guess I was sort of born with a little bit of faith. Jesus said you only need faith as small as a mustard seed. Moses used a stick to open the sea and close the sea. Jesus blessed a first century Happy Meal and it fed 5000 people. God’s math is just bringing what you actually have to the altar and trusting him to do the rest. As he said to Moses, “What’s in your hand?”

So what do you need to trust Him for? What is he telling you that you already have? Pour into that. Mix it. Let it simmer. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

In case you need some inspiration from the Word…
