Sometimes we think we are getting ready for one thing, but God is preparing us for something unexpected.
This morning I dragged myself up as the alarm softly chimed. After devotions and prayer I willed my body to move to get partially ready before waking my little princes for school and making pancakes for them and eggs for me. On this particular day I planned to put them on the bus and finish my makeup before driving to the school with Philip for their morning concert of praise the boys would sing in. By the time we started walking to the bus stop, I was dressed and had eaten breakfast.

This is where the detour began. My Amazon delivery driver needed directions and was actually really near the bus stop. I was able to direct her to the mailroom and collect my package of coffee (which I was drinking the last cup of. Boy was that close!).
When the boys got on the bus, there was no bus monitor. We waited and chatted and still no monitor. The driver called his counterpart for the day but no answer (We would find out later that the monitor contracted a rough stomach virus.). It was a quick and easy decision to hop on the bus after I grabbed my purse and makeup bag. I was available and ready and my husband would meet me at the school to watch the concert.
This is a little thing perhaps, but alleviated stress on my friend who was driving, allowed the children to arrive on time, and I was able to get really good seats for the concert. I was qualified, available, and ready (mostly). I didn’t do anything special, just started the day with surrender and trusted God to work out the details. I pray that every day I will trust Him more with all the details, big and small. It was easy to roll with the day today. I want to trust Him enough to “hop on the bus” to wherever He wants to take me on His planned route for me, through the valleys and the mountains, and beside the still waters.
When has God asked you to switch gears, change plans, or even put down the map completely and follow Him on an unexpected path?
